the book prize. it's a pacific rim book prize in which books come from asia and all over the pacific rim. in the last 11 years it's been a prize we read so many books that have come from voices of new writers. i'm always amazed and they are writing different storers i wrote when i started. all the people have come through now. if you look at the list of indian and japanese authors and chinese authors it's now we are very much diverse. i think for a long time we weren't. i thank you for that question. if i keep going i will never get another question. sluggish shipments to asia, especially as china's economy was losing steam. the report concluded that the yen's up trend and declining stocks were making the environment around the economy increasingly challenging. japan's economic growth from april to june was revised up to 1.5% and that is an annual terms and over a percentage point higher than the initial estimate given in mid-august. the cabinet office said on friday that real gross domestic product grew 0.4% from the previous three months. this marks a third straight quarter of expansion. the revision is an upgrade from the preliminary report, but the pace of expansion was much slower than the 1.2% shown from january through march. one factor pushing up growth was increased company spending on plants and equipment which was higher than many forecasts. another was the slower pace in cutting inventories. a government official said the economy continues to show signs of recovery but expressed caution about the future due to a strong yen and also uncertainties overseas. >>> negotiators from the united states and china are to sta

afternoon after returning from his trade mission to asia. the first responders are now describing the terrifying moments of thursday's huge blast. the ntsb says of the 90 e-mails they've received so far, only one person reported smelling gas before the explosion. ktvu's claudine wong is talking to those federal investigators this morning and joins you now -- and joins us now with this live report. >> reporter: good morning, tori. yes, it's been almost a week since this fireball and explosion and fire here in san bruno. there are still so many questions. the ntsb is out here this morning. we're getting more information about where this investigation is headed. key among the question is how did this start, obviously and why did it burn so long? let's talk about the cause. the ntsb has been asking for anyone to come forward if they smelled gas in the days leading up to the explosion. there have been about 90 e- mails sent to the ntsb. but the ntsb said they only had one person who smelled gas and that was two or three weeks before this happened. if they didn't smell gas, that would b
